Chinese: 56式突击步枪, 'Assault Rifle, Model of 1956'. A series of Chinese-produced AK copies based on the AK-47 and AKM. Production started in 1956 and continues to be used by various nations today. Easily distinguished from its original Soviet counterparts by its fully enclosed front sight, and all types are lacking side mount plates for attaching optics. Also often has a folding spike bayonet. The receiver for early models can be milled or stamped.

- >>0: Type 56-1 - With underfolding stock but the bayonet can be present or not.
- >>0: Type 56-2 - With stamped receiver and side-folding stock. (two on the middle)
