The Xiphos (Ancient Greek: (το) ξίφος) is a leaf-shaped double-edged, single-handed short sword used by the ancient Greek hoplite warriors.
It was always a secondary battlefield weapon for the Greek armies after the spear (their main weapon), used only when the spear was lost in battle.
