In Berserk, the Beast of Darkness, also known as the Hellhound, is ]]' inner beast, the manifestation of all the hatred and evil that has dwelled within his soul since the Eclipse. It takes the form of a great black houndlike wolf with sinister-looking flaming red eyes. It taunts him, questioning the morality of his quest for revenge against _and_urging_him_to_commit_ever-greater_atrocities,_with_the_ultimate_goal_of_turning_him_into_a_monster.

As_the_Black_Swordsman,_Guts_and_the_Beast_worked_in_concert,_and_the_path_of_revenge_and_bloodshed_that_Guts_walked_after_the_Eclipse_allowed_the_Beast_to_grow_in_power._When_Guts_found_ again and started thinking about things other than revenge, the Beast began to work against him, and has begun attempting to convince him to give into his dark desires and kill her so that he can get back to his vendetta against Griffith.
