darkmantle
A cave-dwelling monster from Dungeons & Dragons that resembles a vampire squid with eyes_all_around_the_outside_of_its_body. Darkmantles have the ability to create shrouds of darkness that blocks most forms of light and prey on other travelers in deep underground locales, including human-sized beings. Darkmantles usually kill by smothering their prey in their webbing.
As darkmantles are listed as open game content, they have appeared in other fantasy TTRPGs (eg. Pathfinder).
