donut
A small, fried pastry usually glazed with various frostings and often with filling insides. Also known as a "doughnut".
The donut's most common form, a ring-shaped bun, was a modern creation. This tag can also be applied to various donuts in other shapes, including the traditional rounded donuts.
In media, particularly American ones, donut is stereotypically associated with the police. This cliché originated from the interwar period of the US, in which donuts were the only food that was almost always readily available during late night or early morning shift.
