The original design of Sonic the Hedgehog made for the 2020_feature_film that was met with such an overwhelmingly negative public reception that it prompted the studio to delay the film so that it could be re-edited with a newer design by artist Tyson Hesse. Particular attention has been called to the design's human-like teeth.
The name "Ugly Sonic" was given in the 2022 Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers film, where the design was made into an actual character voiced by comedian Tim Robinson.
