yakul
A large antelope-like fictional animal originating from the The Journey of Shuna and again in Princess Mononoke. Used as a mount by protagonists Shuna (snt) and Ashitaka in their respective series.
Yakul is stated to be a now extinct species of giant serow called an Akashishi (アカシシ), though features horns similar to a Lechwe antelope. The name has been translated in English as Red Elk, though in other languages has been referred to things such as an ibex (animal).
